Additional Info: The plan at this stage is definitely to focus on the Cruise aspect but put in a very low key timed race for those wishing to make it a little more competitive.
So we plan to set ‘would be racers’ off on a mass start upstream and back and also keep any categories simple – Kayak, Canoe, Sup, M/F and possibly add in some spot prizes.
Because this event is aimed at a potentially wide range of competent paddlers we have stipulated that any U18s need to be accompanied by an adult, Guardian or Qualified instructor so that we have most of the safety angles covered.
We are conscious that we will not be certain of individual competencies until we see them on the water, but we have contingencies for this eventuality just in case.
So this is probably a long winded way of saying the event is a good distance away from a normal WWR but we welcome paddlers as long as they have a concept of the format and focus.
We really want folks to understand in the first instance it won’t be a ‘normal River Race’ at all and the focus will be more on participation.
