British Canoeing Non-Olympic and Junior Sprint/Slalom 2021 International Team Travel Covid-19 Policy Statement

British Canoeing Non-Olympic and Junior Sprint/Slalom 2021 International Team Travel Covid-19 Policy Statement

Following the government’s announcement on new Covid-19 travel rules for people in England, British Canoeing are pleased to announce that from 19 July travel to amber listed countries is now permitted for non-Olympic and junior sprint/slalom teams.

The existing DCMS elite exemption will continue to apply to Olympic sprint and slalom, and Paralympic Paracanoe senior and U23 teams, but the new rules now mean all British Canoeing teams can travel to compete abroad (with the exception of red listed countries), subject to individual event risk assessments.

The new guidance will also mean that double-vaccinated people and those under 18 returning to England from amber-list countries will no longer need to self-isolate for 10 days.

British Canoeing are liaising with Home Nation governing bodies to understand the government guidance in devolved nations as these are confirmed over the coming weeks.  Currently we do not believe there to be restrictions to travel but athletes should liaise with their Home Nation governing body for further detail.

Over the coming weeks, British Canoeing will work closely with Discipline Committees to support the running of selection events and review the classification and risk of individual events.

Please note that with the increasing rates in the UK and delta variant, a number of host countries are imposing increasing requirements on travel from the UK.

British Canoeing will work to understand these and where possible apply for exemption to permit travel if required.
