The results from Grandtully on Saturday have been published. The ones from Thistlebrig will follow once the promotions have been confirmed. Even at low water levels, a good weekend was had by all and it was good to see some new faces on the Tay. Jo Oughton and Janine Baker once again provided some terrific food for the National Prizegiving on Saturday evening and there were lots of others who played their part in making it a really enjoyable evening. Organiser, Alan Tordoff, would like to thank his parents, Hazel and Mike, and his wife, Louise, for bearing the cold and providing an excellent timing service and also thank Nigel Jones and Stuart Smith for their assistance. The next races on the Tay are Tour D'Ecosse 1st - 3rd May. A terrific 3 day WWR event giving you the opportunity to enjoy Scotland over a bank holiday weekend at a beautiful time of year. The organiser this year is Stuart Smith. Tay Descent 23/24 Oct A river marathon in conjunction with the Scottish Canoe Exhibition

The Tay Races WILL go ahead this weekend.
It has been snowing hard above about 100m, but, for instance it's been raining hard in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.
Snow is forecast for tonight but due to stop in the morning. As soon as it stops, the roads will clear very quickly.
Remember you're not going as far as Blair Atholl.

Award for Peter Schofield |
|
Sunday, 07 February 2010 |
Congratulations to Peter Schofield who has received a richly deserved Outstanding Contribution Award from Canoe England. He picked up his award from GB slalom paddler, Etienne Stott, at the recent coaching conference. Picture Peter has been chairman of WWR for the past 10 years, taking over a vacant position at the end of 1999 at a time when participation was falling and international achievements were on the decline. He believed that increasing junior participation and training was the way forward and introduced several initiatives including the Youth Series and a development academy. Most of the current crop of medal winning GB women have benefited from Peter's initiatives. He also bid for and won the 2002 Junior World Championships at Bala and the 2005 World Cup Series which has helped to raise the profile of WWR in the UK. Peter continues to put in an incredible amount of time and energy into the sport (ably assisted by Janine Baker over the past few years) and it is fitting that Canoe England have chosen to recognise his devotion. |
